Invitation: EIT Urban Mobility Discovery Day ‘Impact of the Mobility Transition’
Tuesday, 13 May 2025 in Hasselt, Belgium (in the City Hall Council Chamber)

NOTE: This event will be in Dutch.

Mobility is the lifeblood of our society, and accessibility is its most important criterion. It connects people with opportunities, businesses with markets, and cities with their surroundings. But mobility is at a turning point. Cities are becoming congested, the number of fatalities and injuries would not be tolerated in any other industry and would lead to immediate shutdowns, emissions must be drastically reduced, and new technologies are changing the way we move people and goods. The mobility transition is not some distant future—it’s a challenge we must face today.

What does this mean for how we move ourselves and goods, how we design our cities, and how we use our infrastructure? How can we ensure that tomorrow’s mobility is not only smarter and more sustainable but also remains accessible and inclusive?

During the EIT Urban Mobility Discovery Day—taking place in Hasselt on Tuesday, 13 May 2025—we will bring together experts, policymakers, entrepreneurs, and innovators to explore the impact of the mobility transition. We’ll showcase cutting-edge solutions and, above all, collaborate on approaches that can truly accelerate the shift toward future-ready mobility.

Will you join us?

The Ülemiste City Future Forum 2025 is a two-day conference. It brings together over 400 leaders, executives and entrepreneurs from Estonia and the wider region to shape the future of business. Focused on the theme of “Business Growth – Leading the Next Wave,“ the event provides valuable insights, key connections and innovative strategies for business growth.

As part of the forum, Estonian Cleantech Association, the Estonian Business School and EIT Urban Mobility are co-organising the Mobility Innovation Procurement Workshop II on 25 April from 14.00 to 16.00.

Mobility Innovation Procurement Workshop II

25 April 2025 | 14.00-16.00

The first workshop is part of an initiative to help increase the adoption of innovation procurement in the mobility and transport sector by local governments in Estonia. The initiative kicked off in January with a gathering of Estonian stakeholders working on the topic.

This session will focus on identifying the key challenges faced by national and municipal governments and related stakeholders, with particular emphasis on the barriers to achieving a green transition in the sector. Two more workshops are planned for June and September 2025. You can write to Piret Liv Stern Dahl (piret.liv.stern@eiturbanmobility) if you wish to get involved and be invited. The entire initiative will result in the publication of a final recommendations report for innovation procurement at the end of the year.

The primary working language will be Estonian, but one working group will be conducted in English. English-speaking participants are welcome to join and share their experiences on innovation procurement. You have to register to attend.

The potential of light electric vehicles

This Nordic high-level conference, co-organised by EIT Urban Mobility and Dansk Erhverv (Danish Chamber of Commerce), will bring together key actors from Northern Europe to present innovative solutions, learn from each other, network and explore the following questions:

What role can light electric vehicles (LEVs) play in the transition towards better, healthier and more sustainable cities? How can LEVs help strengthen Europe’s economy and European businesses, while reducing our dependency on critical raw materials from abroad?

The explosive rise in e-bikes, e-cargo bikes and other LEVs in recent years has revealed an enormous potential for shifting transport in cities from cars and trucks to lighter, less polluting and more space-efficient modes. Not only is this good for reducing emissions and reaching our climate goals, but the reduced air and noise pollution (and the increased physical activity for e-bike users) also have positive knock-on effects on public health and quality of life in urban areas.

A recently published report by EIT Urban Mobility and EIT InnoEnergy also highlights the role that LEVs can play for the European battery value chain. Because LEVs can meet a substantial part of urban mobility needs with much smaller batteries than electric cars, a shift to LEVs would also help mitigate dependency on critical raw materials from abroad.

Join us in Copenhagen to hear leading voices from cities, companies, startups and academia share their perspective on the potential of LEVs for powering active mobility, healthy cities and local businesses.

The event is free of charge.
